Bandits burn down police outpost, houses in Zamfara

In Zamfara, bandits torch police stations and homes.

Parts of Zamfara that share borders with Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto, Katsina, and the Niger Republic have seen renewed bandit attacks in recent weeks.

Bandits burned down a police outpost, shops, and three houses in Zugu village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State, on Thursday.

However, Abubakar Garba, a youth leader in Bukkuyum, claimed that no one was killed in the attack.

He claimed that following the attack, many residents fled to Bukkuyum and other villages in neighboring Gummi Local Government to seek refuge.

Zugu is the second most populous community in the Bukkuyum Local Government.

"The attack was carried out by bandits from the Gando forest." According to some of the residents who fled to Bukkuyum town, that three of the houses were those near the police station

Residents claimed that the bandits had passed through the community but returned to attack it.

"We believe the bandits returned to Zugu to neutralize the policemen stationed at the village outpost." "Because the bandits knew the police would respond to a distress call, they decided to attack the outpost first," he explained.

According to Mr. Garba, the shops were looted before being set on fire.

He stated that many of the injured had gunshot wounds, while others were injured in the stampede that ensued as people tried to flee the gunmen.

They were relocating to other parts of the western area "No one was killed, and all the police officers on duty fled to safety before the bandits could reach the outpost," said an unnamed monarch in the area.

The displaced are being cared for at Bukkuyum, according to the monarch.

Mohammed Shehu, the state police spokesman, did not respond to calls and SMS messages about the attack.

Bandits have terrorized the northwestern and north-central parts of Nigeria, killing and displacing hundreds of people and stealing domestic animals.

Farmers have been chased off their land, while hundreds of students have been kidnapped. Hundreds of people have been killed or forced to flee their homes.
